Without a compelling offer, your DRTV production would stall in the starting gate. Despite the importance of offers, however, they’re often misunderstood. So what exactly is a DRTV offer, and why is it so important?
Most people would say that DRTV offers are sales boosters. And they’d be half-right. More precisely, an offer is designed to trigger a quick buy — like right now! What’s the urgency? Well, who says a viewer will see your video a second time? If they don’t bite on the spot, they may never get another opportunity. And neither will you.
DRTV offers plant the seeds of urgency by creating a perceived loss. Viewers should feel they’ll miss out if they don’t buy. Examples of urgency-creators are: this offer good today only, call in the next five minutes, and supplies won’t last long at these prices. The possibilities abound.
Avoid randomness when designing an offer. They should match the product or service. A free mobile phone cover probably won’t stimulate sales if you’re selling back massagers. But a comfort pad likely would.
And don’t forget about giving more of a good thing. If your cooking spoon has enticed viewers, a second, absolutely free spoon could clinch the deal. Hence, the ever-popular BOGO – buy one, get one free. It’s more of what viewers already want.
